The First Workshop
The first workshop organized by The Nippon Foundation Paralympic Research Group, "Broadcasting the London and Sochi Paralympics and Responses to the Broadcast", was held on September 4, 2014. Members of organizations associated with the Paralympics were invited to attend a presentation given by an expert involved in broadcasting the London and Sochi Paralympics in Japan.
For the Sochi Paralympics, there were approximately 70 hours of live television broadcast on the channel. Multi-device viewing was also made available, increasing the number of viewers particularly in the teens and twenties age ranges.
However, in a national survey, nearly 50 percent of respondents did not express interest in the Paralympics. Work towards the 2020 Games will start on the basis that people in Japan do not know about the Paralympics.
